#PrkBalingian: HIGH LEVEL PROGRAM TO HELP BUMI CONTRACTORS

MUKAH: The Contractors Service Centre (PKK), under the Ministry of Works, has launched a high-level programme this year as one of the steps to strengthen the Bumiputera contractors in the country.
Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said under the programme, agencies and government-linked companies could refer to the data base of prestigious Bumiputera contractors.
"It is hoped that the data base will help the government reduce the problem of 'sick' projects and encourage the growth of competitive Bumiputera contractors," he said.
Fadillah said this at the launch of Public Service Programme, which is jointly sponsored by PKK and Akademi Binaan Malaysia, Construction Industry Development Board at Kampung Pulat Balingian near here.
He said PKK has set up a Bumiputera Inspection Programme to audit the standard of the Bumiputera contractor, especially those which received the government contracts.
"The government does not want negative performance to be firmly established like a non-Bumiputera using the licence of a Bumiputera contractor to get the government project," he said.
Fadillah said PKK also planned to have 264 programmes to boost the capacity of over 20,000 Bumiputera contractors involved in management and technical aspects throughout the year.
He said he ministry would cooperate with the Finance Ministry to hold courses on goods and services tax to prepare the Bumiputera contractors to face the challenges ahead. - Bernama
